Well, i guess i can reveal my plans anyway.
I've been trying to keep it a secret for quite some time now but the urge to announce is just itching like mad
For many many years ago, i think it was back in 2003 when PCKF still was on ezboard i started a project to make a full featured 3d short-movie transforming the intro from Secrets Of The Oracle into really nice looking 3d.
(And by '3d' i mean the original term for 3d graphics, not 'stereo movie' wich seem to have highjacked the term today.)
At that time i was quite unexperienced working with both projects an the different aspects of creating manageable 3d art.
Today i know insanely more and with several projects behind me i know the problem pits and how to avoid them. I also have alot of people who can help me, unlike back in the days when i was working alone.
I recently decided to pick up the project again and have for the past half-year been writing an excellent script. Mort here on PCKF helped me quite some with character designs and it looks like a good start. So now will move on to storyboarding and previz.
But you won't see anything before the project comes closer to finish. Expect more than a year of waiting because stuff like this takes time. Perhaps some prop stills will appear in the forum like the one i posted here, or if you're lucky, some finished stills But i won't be feeding work in progress material here. It will ruin the awesomeness. _________________

Ah, so this is what you meant by "I have been working on a thing i have tried to keep a secret for very long now. Very hard to keep stuff like that for yourself. Still a lot of work left."
And if the whole thing is as fantastic as that picture, we're all in for a treat. Good luck. |

Ahaaa... Mort made the character designs, you made the 3D art... sounds too good to be true, I really hope this will be finished. _________________

Still have to make, mind you
The vortacolas have been there since the first project, or more like the texture was made back then. I just refined the texture and made simple new models. Perhaps that explains certain feelings of deja vu
The helmet is new though. _________________

Hey DSL,
I want to say this looks and sounds very cool. Not only because of the work I have seen you do and are doing now, but because you have struck such a dynamic duo between you and Mort. I hope alot of good things come out of this; if anything just experience for the both of you. It's great to see two Keeners work together.
If it has been decided and won't spoil anything, what will the art style be like of the film? Unless what you posted are actually previews of the final look. |

This deserves much more of a reaction then I am going to give it, mostly because I didn't get any sleep last night. Bravo and well done, this is a true shot of a masterpiece. _________________ What you really need, not what you think you ought to want. |

Indeed -- best of luck to this project. (Yeah, I too thought there was something familiar with the cans but I just thought I'm insane as that's usually the way it is.) And by Mort we mean the Mort who has made those Keen comics? _________________ Tom Hall: "... I don't consider that GBA game canon by any means."

No the picture does not represent anything at this point.
But i guess i can spill some more beans while i'm at it.
The vision is to keep it very true to the original, that means no dramatic changes to character appearance. Billy won't be tall and skinny but shorter and slightly chubby/rounder like the original designs.
For example, i will also base colours around the original game palette to keep the same look yet giving it realistic shading.
The only dilemma i have is if Billy should have white skin or human like.
I think from tests back ni the days i found white to be quite original looking, but somehow scary. We'll see if i can get it right this time around.
I can also say that this project will be entierly non-profitable, all original creators will be credited and i think it will draw new people to the games actually. _________________

Maybe try to make it a paler real skin colour, to make him simply look like he spends too much time indoors. There must be good middle ground in there somewhere. _________________

I'm glad to discuss this actually because it's good to know what the fans think
I don't think a pale look would do it actually. If you would see it as 'too much indoors'-look it would make the character less apealing. It would be like looking at a unhealthy character all the time.
No, if the skin should be white it must feel like an artistic choice and not sickness. As long as it looks comfortable i'm all okay with white.
It can give an original look actually, just like the Simpsons are yellow and not human skin colour.
Perhaps i should post different looks and make it a poll later on, because i think it's a key issue. I would rather prefer white because it's OLDSKOOL but if it doesn't look right i just go for the other. _________________

It also depends on the realism of the surroundings. From what I've seen of your work so far, an oldschool look is most likely to seem out of place.
The only way to know for sure is to experiment, I suppose. _________________

Maybe the scary feeling won't arise if all caucasian characters are displayed white in your film. That way it will feel normal and true to the Keen style. _________________
