Javascript Paddle Wars

Post by Buck »

Hey all,

I made a quick clone of the paddle wars game in HTML5 using JavaScript.

This should work in all browsers except IE. Let me know what you think!

Isn't working in all browsers but IE like a car that only drives in first?

More like a car that hasn't had its gearbox modified to drive in gear F. At least when you're dealing with HTML. But I would be curious as to why a Java applet won't run in IE.

It will work on ie9... eventually :lol :lol :lol :rollin

Anyway, this game is nice, but it's nearly impossible to beat the comp. It's too fast and you can't trick the comp. You hardly can point the ball more horizontally.

well if you're on a 70,000 light year journey, it should have a bit of a learning curve.

Yeah it's much harder than the original, I only got 3 goals 'till I lost...

And about that IE problem:
What's up with today's commercial* software, why is it almost always infinitely surpassed by freeware? It's not strictly a microsoft problem, iTunes for example might be the worst mediaplayer around...

*I know you don't have to pay for IE or iTunes, but they're still company bound.

Proprietary would be the appropriate term.

More like a road that hasn't been updated for my car yet :P

It's not a java applet - it's pure javascript and HTML5, and IE hasn't been updated to the HTML5 standard yet.

I always remembered paddle wars to be hard enough that you could never really reach 21-0. The ball and computer paddle are a bit faster to make up for mouse controls instead of keyboard controls.

Do you really want to be stuck with an ancient browser that was once good but can't keep up with the latest (kickass) standards?

I missed keyboard functionality... And it's really fast.

You'd have to have an IQ of 314 to beat that thing!

The winning score is 21-0? I assumed it went on forever...

Blargh, it doesn't have the same bounding boxes as PaddleWar!, which kept screwing me up.

Were they bigger on the original?

The original would occasionally have your ball fall through the sides. I also do believe that if you hit closer to the side they'd bounce off a slightly wider angle than this version does.
