Well, the physics have had so much tweaking, it makes us sick. I think the reason people think the physics are not accurate is because DOSBox runs the program faster than it was originally run. If someone with an old dos computer could get keen and do a run through of the first three games of Keen in Dos, and then in Commander Genius, and record video of it both times, then we could finally get an idea of what we really need to change about the physics to make them proper.
As far as scrolling goes, I made that dynamic. Just open the configuration menu in game, go to graphics, and go to camera bounds (or something like that) and you can adjust when it starts to scroll on each side separately. You can also adjust the speed, but higher speed makes it scroll slower (I should probably fix that sometime, but it means I have to make the programming more complex). You can adjust it however you want, to make the scrolling match the original as much as you want.
The scrolling in multiplayer might be messed up though, and I think the teleporters in CG don't scroll properly when used right now. |

I agree on many levels here:
Yorphius II and Keen X are a good start do get mods working, they have almost no patching, so it's easy to get them working. I suggest to always use the version of mods available on KeenWiki, as I try to keep the links there updated with the latest version. (The original Yorphius II for example had a hex-edited exe, and since this is illegal the version on Keenwiki is patched)
Also there is some truth in what pizza said: the feeling that scrolling and physics speeds are different in CG is often related to the higher frame rate of CG compared to doskeen. Dosbox isn't exactly too fast, it only seems faster because of lower framerate. _________________

Hmm, okay, I will try to get Yorphius II and Keen X as much working as the original, eventhough I think most of the elements are already applied.
About the teleporter bug. THis is one never happened to me. When does this happen?
Can someone report this to the trac and tell exactly how to reproduce it. I tried but I never got it happening on my system.
And yeah, that's the main problem about the physics. They might be a bit different everywhere, but I'm pretty sure, the difference isn't that big anymore. |

| I don't think so. Basically DOSbox is something similar to a virtual with installed OS |

I think adding Half Byte Loader compatibility for psp's would be awesome. I miss playing Keen on my old psp now i got the pspgo and the homebrew on it is very limited . keep up the good work! |

| I've been working a lot on the patching code. Now Yorphius II and Keen X should be supported fully. If someone wants a testing version, let me know. I will upload one... |

Request: can we get a 'default' option in the configuration settings that makes things like graphics (specifically camera scrolling), audio, and other options identical to (or as close as CG approximates) the original games. A continuing problem with me and CG has been seeing all the 'fancy' new stuff when I just want the bare minimum experience (to start with at least!) and since there are a lot of options its hard to figure out just what to adjust in the settings in order to get that. _________________ The PCKF Rules

I'm glad to read such motivational responses here. The next poll will hopefully focus more on your wishlist.
@Commander Spleen: For Ubuntu I usually don't upload test versions, but I can do that. I need to make some changes to my script. Might take a bit of time, but I guess tonight I can upload some packages regardless being i386 or amd64.
@Ceilick: thanks for your suggestion, I like that idea, but I want to discuss that first with the team and added your suggestion to our trac system as feature request. We might extend it like sorta of profiles or themes, having "classic", "new", "fancy", etc. Something like that...
I was thinking about adding another menu effect to CG, the one that also happens in Vorticons Keen, when you open a menu or dialog box. That classic opening effect. So this might fit as well here.
well, I should be working more on Galaxy support!!! But that is what happens, when there are so many requests and few active developers in the team, man! |

| Seriously people, Gerstrong is right, our main concern is getting Galaxy working, so this stuff does have to wait. |

Hmm.
| Code: | jimage@jimedia:~/Downloads/CG-SVN-Jun0710-1622-linux32$ ./CGenius
./CGenius: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.11' not found (required by ./CGenius)
./CGenius: /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.11' not found (required by ./CGenius)
|
And the DEB:
Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libvorbis0a (>= 1.2.3)
I'm on Ubuntu 9.04. I take it these were compiled with 9.10 or 10.04.
I'll give it a whirl on the EeePC, which is running 9.10.
Edit: In 9.10 the linux32 binary only complains about GLIBC_2.11. The deb has the same dependency issue. _________________ THIS POST IS IRREFUTABLE FACT |
