I don't know if someone else already created a patch like this, but whatever! This little patch will do the following:
-->
It will also replace any "NUKUM" string in the executables with "NUKEM", as the following screenshots show:
Download: old patch new patch
The only bad thing about this: It's a Win32 program. But I might port it to DOS someday.
Update: The new version comes with a DOS version of the patch! _________________ Hail to the K1n9, baby!

Or you could just use an earlier release... _________________ Cereal Board!

Of course, but from what I've read so far, there should be some code fixes in Version 2.0 and not just a couple of replaced strings. _________________ Hail to the K1n9, baby! |

There's a new version of the patch that comes with a DOS executable.
As a bonus, both the Windows and the DOS version don't require UNLZEXE anymore. The DOS patch is basically a modified version of the UNLZEXE 0.5 source code and for the windows version, I ported the UNLZEXE source code from C to BlitzMax. Go have some fun with it. _________________ Hail to the K1n9, baby! |

I think this patch kind of destroys an interesting piece of Duke history.
I guess it's kind of useful if you want the latest version of Duke with his official name, though. _________________ "Father Mabeuf was surveying his plants" |

I'm not saying that everyone should instantly use this patch and delete all the "Nukum" files. My goal was to provide everybody who is interested with a legal way to play the game with the title it was supposed to have. Even 3D Realms' site on Duke 1 uses the name "Nukem" and the title screen with the word "Nukem". And if you have a close look at the "Nukum" title screen above, you can even see that they erased a bit of the "M" when they changed the title.
If you don't like it, just delete the files created by the patch and rename the files with "-OLD" back to their original form. _________________ Hail to the K1n9, baby! |
