Let's Play Vanished to Venus, and some Abandoned Demos!

Post by Bonevelous »

Since I won't have much to talk about with this mod, let's play part of this.

BONUS:
Image
LET'S PLAY VANISHED TO VENUS

From now on, I'll provide a title picture to go along with the LP.

Image
There's no time to waste. Let's GO!!!

Image
Got the key, now to...
Image
Open the door...
Image
...AND KABLOOEY!!! I BEAT THE LEVEL!!!

Image
This level is very horizontal; like Super Mario!

Image
WHY IS THIS ROCK HALF PINK?

Image
This spinning CD does nothing apparently. I am disappoint.

Image
This is where the levels begin to get huge.

Image
This must be where all the citizens of Venus used to go to dance in the 60's.

Image
ARRR. I HAVE TO GO ALL THE WAY DOWN TO GET THE KEY. :dead

More of this later. For now, Let's Play Vorticon World!
Image
LET'S PLAY VORTICON WORLD

Image
NO!!! GO BACK TO VENUS!!! THAT WAS A BILLION TIMES BETTER!!!!

Image
This is Vorticon VI on MSPaint and Ugly.

Image
Where is this place? I don't remember seeing anything that looks like this on Vorticon VI. Is this a jail?

Image
This level is so short, it may as well have been nonexistent.

Image
Well, this is depressingly empty. Why am I about to enter a 90's doll house?

Image
That tiny vorticon is wandering around in circles to get into the building. Very imprecise.

Image
UGHH THE GRAPHICS

Image
...Why is this a ladder?

Image
Oh joy, this one is slightly confusing. You have to be moving in order to jump.

Image
HI-YA! HOO-WAH!

Image
MY EYES! THE GOGGLES DO NOTHING!

Image
It's like this guy just discovered the gradient and transparency tools in the Clik-n'-Create sprite editor.

Image
Why is THIS a ladder? I thought it was a platform at first, thus killing me. Bad graphical choice for a ladder.

Image
I have to jump on the gargoyle's tongue. I have to give credit; these guys aren't quite as ugly as the rest of the custom graphics. That's saying a lot, because they're still below the quality of the CD-i Zelda games.

Image
This ladder leads to the exit.

Image
"You win! For now!"
Wow. This is so unrewarding, it may as well been a TXT file that said "win."

"Stay tuned for the next demo of Vorticon World!"
I don't think any new demos are likely to come out.

...Speaking of unlikely things, it's unlikely I'm going to finish any of the mods I've started making. :o I might, though, especially with Keen Mine, which only needs the level with the fourth item; any other levels made are extra.

Wow. I remember banished to venus! I never beat it though.
With the hundreds of fangames on bipship and the likes I never played I thought I was missing out on a ton of important entries in keen fanon. It turns out Moore's law even applies to keen games :'(

ninja non-edit edit: Oh, it turns out Moore's law is about the number of transistors in machines doubling every 5 years. Then who the fucl was it that said "90% of everything is crap"?

TV Tropes calls it Sturgeon's Law.

There are actually a lot of good Keen fangames out there. I think Sturgeon would have been more accurate if he said "30-60 percent of everything is terrible." :)

I now somehow feel like making a crappy game. Perhaps with commentary included on how crappy it is. That would certainly be a new way of LP'ing! :dopekeen

So instead of playing games so you don't have to, it would be making games for you to play where you will find that the creator created it so you don't have to play but only if you play.

Why not do the "Let's Play" format with YouTube? :) In DOSBox, once it is configured, you can do Ctrl+Alt+F5 to begin video capture, and then overdub it with some sound of your own if you have the tools...

Good work on this one, though! :)

I played through Vanished to Venus just last week. It's one of my favourite Benvolio mods, it's got a unique atmosphere, and makes great use of the palette patch.

Like gerstrong indicated: Go download CommanderGenius, Bonev, and run Vanished to Venus with it, maybe we'll learn about a few undiscovered bugs that way.

I'm a bit wary of fan-games, but I might try Vanished to Venus - it looks quite good.
