Keen 1 640x480 Redux
Keen 1 640x480 Redux
Hi all,
This is a keen 1 mod that runs at 640x480 resolution under dosbox. Extract the .zip it into its own directory and run under the latest DOSBOX version. The mod requires that you set in the dosbox configuration file, machine=svga_paradise (find "machine=svga_s3" and replace it). If you use windows, the file "dosbox.conf" should be located in the directory in which dosbox is installed. If you are using linux, its in your home folder somewhere, but the exact location depends on the dosbox version.
Thanks to levellass for maintaining the patch index, Dr. Kylstein for the smooth VGA fading, and the makers of all the keen modding tools.

Sounds pretty impressive. Please post a screenshot... I'm too tired to download the latest DosBox.

Holy crap, lemm.
Seriously, I just played through all of Keen 1 with this and wow.
It could be pretty interesting to make a mod that takes full advantage of this.
And Addendum: It sure is weird to see so much of the level. Makes you think you're moving slower, too.
Edit: Nope, screenshots sure don't do it justice. And I tried it in DOSBox .72 for kicks: hahaha, that is one heck of a seizure it has.

Heheh, screenshots won't do this justice, I don't think.KeenRush wrote:Sounds pretty impressive. Please post a screenshot... I'm too tired to download the latest DosBox. Embarrassed

Thanks... This is exactly what I've been dreaming of at times; to play Keen while seeing so much space around the character. Updated my DosBox and just started playing -- great work! It's like a new game. Can't even imagine how much work this has been. And the Doctor's smooth fading is great, too.

Wow. This was impressive. It was fun.
This is actually gameplay altering because of two reasons:
1. Obviously you can see more around you, and thus be prepared for any traps.
2. Enemies get in action more quickly! I found a Vorticon at the top-right of the level in places where it wouldn't usually come in the original game. (Actually, it fell into a pit all the way down at the bottom of the map. )

Wow look at me I'm lurking
This should be quite easy, to be honest. I know this can already be done in KEENGINE by altering the game.ini file (with some bugs yet to be fixed).tulip wrote:Nice, I hope for a feature like this in CG sometime in the future.
Hail to the K1n9, baby!

Ok, I found the file, but now how do I make the change exactly? Do I need to open it, and if so, how is this accomplished?
