PC Speaker Sounds or Adlib in Keen Galaxy Engine ?

Post by gerstrong »

As two of the users in another thread told me that they prefer the PC speaker sounds I'm opening another Poll and asking what you prefer.

CG will support both of them, but I want to know on what I should concentrate first.

Don't worry, I also know how the PC Speaker Sound format in Galaxy works so it won't take that much time...

And both will be supported. I'm only looking on the priority of the fans :-)

As long as it does support both, I'm impartial.

Hey gerstrong(or anyone really), for those, such as myself, who don't know, what are the differences between the two?
Okeyday.

PC Speaker sounds are played through a built-in speaker in old computers, that's only capable of very simple sounds (although a while back, there was a program which could play MP3s, albeit at very low quality, through it). It doesn't require any dedicated sound hardware, which a lot of old computers were lacking.

AdLib is full-ability sound effects (well, not quite, but it would seem it if you didn't know the technical details).

Adlib only works on Adlib sound cards - no PC still has that. Every PC has a PC speaker, or at least support for the system calls...

Not sure what your point is there, DHeadshot.

I think he was telling LJH that Adlib was used in old computers, and while PC Speaker isn't used very often anymore, it is still supported.

Well this sums it up. I will try to implement PC Speaker sounds for next release also, because we have Adlib Sounds working. I hope I get it done. If not, it will be next month. And hopefully I can continue with AI

Well we got more votes. Just be sure the PC Speakers for Keen Galaxy are implemented and even an option change trigger it.

This option also works in vorticon keen and allows you disable the HQ Sounds even if you have them loaded.

If you don't have them or are incomplete, it will skip them and jump back to PC Speaker Sounds.

I'm already happy to show you the next version, but some days are still left... :-)
