New Website for Commander Genius

Post by gerstrong »

Hi everyone,

As some of you guys might know I'm working everyday on Commander Genius to address some old bugs, make it much more faster with a full load of features.

This is the preparation for Version 0.4 of CG. It's a huge step forward. I talked about that vision all the time and I have terrible delays here and there, nevertheless the engine is getter close to get released. I already fully play Commander Keen 1-4 on it. There are only minor issues left, which I want to address. When this is done the release comes. But this must be better than everything I did in the past...

Now to the Website. I need a new Design, so I opened this thread so we could discuss about it.

I would like to have something retro, yet modern and fresh. Something that shows what Commander Genius does. More of the Galaxy stuff should reference that site, because more of that is coming. I was thinking about using a special green, like the one of sour apples as color and make it more brightful, not that dark as it is now for the design.

What do you think?

Btw. for those who want to see what I do on the project, check this link out. I go small steps, but the engine evolves and is getting more stable and awesome.

Also the code is now much better to read and more portable.

And yeah, more screenshots of v0.4 later!

Designwise I'd say these are the paramount keen websites:

http://dosclassics.com/keen/
http://www.planetkeen.com/

Both work with a lot of original graphics, Spleens website also kinda keeps a keenish font style.

http://www.commanderkeenfans.com/ also has some neato features, and uses friendly colouring, although, for my taste it looks a lil too modern.

Well, thanks again Tulip.

I have taken your feedback and I didn't create it from the scratch.

I just modified what we have and I like it!

Thanks again.

looks good to me. I'm unsure if it's a bit dark overall. My desktop environment is very dark, so it works on my computer, I'm just not sure what others will say.

You should update the link to the latest version of the Mac build, I uploaded a build for version 3.6.1, but it isn't linked to on the website. Also add a Mac build to the version 4 listing, but add it like this:

MacOS X (10.4 and later) - Version 0.4.0 - (Under construction, stay tuned!)

And when version 4 is released it will need to say Intel for the link, because Universal builds can no longer be made with current Mac OSX systems, so unfortunately newer versions of Commander Genius won't have any support for Power PC Macs.
