Valentines Keen and massive compouter crash

Post by Levellass »

Thank goodness for Dropbox is all I'll say.

However the network of patch requests and work I had is gone, so if you made a patch request to me recently, that has probably been set back at least two weeks.

Hope to have screenshots or a video up sometime too, we'll see how things pan out.

W-W-What!?
With all the errors I've been getting, I'm afraid my laptop is on its last leg -- which is a shame because I really like the version of Paint. Why, it was just last night I backed up all my project files. DosBox stopped working, too. That was quite a scare.
But a Valentine Keen. Heard about that. Anxious to see the look of it.

That's what Ubuntu One and external hard drives are for. Extra backups. That's a real shame though :(

I tend not to back up patch requests as ythey're usually stored somewhere like PMs, but the work I do on them isn't, even though I generally do it and ship it off.

Hopefully this will be out before *next* valentine's day!

wow looks stunning!!!!! and the soundtrack, excellent!!!!! i look forward to hearing what other classic tunes will make it onto your soundtrack, perhaps Gypsy Woman by Crystal Waters would make for a good level backing music!

Keep up the work, those trees are still looking a little bit Keen6ish but it's all good!

That video looks neat! This is quite a nice theme, and I like the "angel keen".

I have a critique about the pixel art, though: I think you should try using less solid black, both in outlines and in shading, particularly in the grass and trees. If you look at Keens 4-6, there are some black outlines and shading, but a lot of it is done with other colours like greys, reds, purples, and I think this makes the art look cleaner and more interesting. Too much black in the pixel art makes a game look more "gritty", and a Valentine's-themed game in particular seems like it should have a softer more pastel-like palette. I think you did do this with the butterflies, their outline is a darker shade of red instead of black - it would be neat if you tried it with other things too, to see how it looks.

1. Download FastCopy, use it to back up all your files to a "backups" folder in an external HDD. Don't make this mistake the hard way. I like FastCopy because after it does the full backup once, the next time it will take under a minute to scan your drive, see which files are new/changed and add them to the existing backup. Other free backup software like Areca seems to take as long as the first time. So just do a backup every day, it only takes a few seconds of your time, and when your laptop finally dies you won't have lost anything.
2. Do you mean that you prefer the old version of MS Paint and don't like the new one that's in Windows 7? Just download this- it's an exact clone.

Looking very nice!
Something I love is the large sheet of clouds, which would've taken a while, I was thinking of the same sort of clouds for SS, but tile conservation won me over.
I also like the 'Crash Bandicoot style death'.

Thanks, Snortimer! Much obliged!
I like the Paint in Vista better than the Windows 7 Paint because of...
I've had problem importing Keen bitmaps. The colors get all messed up.
I also dislike the Selection Tool. But just as long as there's an Eraser and a Pencil Tool, we're all good. :]

Oh, and amazing demo. Really quite awesome.

Baby don't stun me.

Is this the music that will be in the game?

But yeah, this is amazing. Absolutely amazing. The blood gushing thing I only noticed once I looked for it, but I think it's okay for them to do that.
