High Quality Pack 2.0 and new Keen 4 music

Post by gerstrong »

Hello,

this time we have uploaded HQP v2.0 which for the first time handles high quality resources for Commander Keen Galaxy Series. For now only the Keen 4 tunes are in HQ the rest remains the same.

IMHO it is a nice addition as those classic tunes were very short and repetitive. Those are basically the same and as far I know the original that were composed by Bobby Prince. They are a bit longer and hopefully give the levels a new feeling.

For those interested and wanting to download it, here it is:

Tell me what you think about it.

NOTE: You need to use Commander Genius v1.2 Beta and up. Everything older than that do not support HQP for Galaxy.

Can't say I like it at all. Guess I'm a fan of EGA and chiptunes.

It seems like kind of a missed opportunity to add a half-minute interlude to Oasis (already the second-longest song in Keen 4), but only make a subtle percussion change in Too Hot (by far the shortest and most common song). I would love to hear Too Hot expanded significantly beyond its original two phrases, though where it would go I couldn't tell.

Yeah, that is why it's optional. I understand those split opinions, and well it's always open to improvements.

Well, after a long absence (and all of six posts before this one), I see activity! It was pretty dead last time I'd been here, nice to see activity!

Been so very long since I last played any of the Keen games, so shall find myself a copy of 4 to check this one out with. Listening to some of the tracks though, and very nicely done takes. Can see why this might be divisive, though. Any chance of re-mastering some of the sound effects (like entering/leaving a level or dying)?

Technically implementing this is no problem, finding people who want to remaster tracks or sounds is much more difficult. CG gets a lot of coding from my side so no time for other stuff.

HQ Graphics for Galaxy Keen would also be awesome, but well...

Keen 6 is about to get finished, so only Dreams will be left to get supported...

I still get improvements on those. So next version HQP might have better remixes.
