Best Fangame Engine
Best Fangame Engine
Hi folks!
I'm new around here and I was curious about what you think is the best 2D fangame engine. I haven't yet seen anything better than Isis II, but maybe someone else has.
I'd just like to know...

Best engine, that's a hard question as I haven't really played many that don't just use the CNC default. Now if you asked best /game/, I could answer that (from my opinion), but the game I would say doens't exactly have a great engine at all...

BIG thanks to q 90! That source could be interesting as it seems to have some basics to support original Keen levels (it's got carmack_compress/decompress).
But as I'm new around I don't know whether this engine was to be a reverse-engineered Keen 4-6 or just a homebrew platform engine.
I'm just curious about what you think might be the best engine so far because I've been working on an engine for a fangame that the german Keen-Community is planning to make. Since looking at other platform games and map editing tools for games like Wolfenstein or Duke3D has helped me along the way, I thought seeing another cool engine couldn't hurt.
I've already got some nice features like supporting the ID-TEXT ingame help and story texts working nicely, and all the basic movement and shooting stuff is in there, too.

I sure do, but I'd rather discuss this matter with our community first. However, I could post some shots if you'd like to see them.
Edit: As you might have guessed, this engine is not done with GamesFactory, KlickNPlay or whatsoever.

I think that engine was made completely from scratch I'm assuming. And you're welcome for the source! Although I wasn't the one that uploaded it, it was on CommanderSpleen's webspace (I just found the link after much searching).
Oh, and is this the German community forum? Dammit they have a logo!

Yes, we do. And since last christmas, we do also have a (slighly modified) christmas-logo. (I did that one in about five minutes)q 90 wrote:Dammit they have a logo!
