I saw this comic in the newspaper the other day and thought the blue thing looked a LOT like a yorp.

Vega looks more like a moon to me, considering its terrestrial composition and the gas giant in its sky.
I wonder if the cartoonist who drew the comic played Keen once, or knew of Yorps in some other way?

I think one-eyed stalk aliens are just a common cartoon staple.

Exactly, like the one Calvin and Hobbes bump into when they go to Mars. They're rarely big part characters, but the basic stalk eye design is there.
