Just a quick reminder that the IRC channel is still alive, and you've all been missing some interesting conversations and antics. There are about three or four of us who are generally permanently around, and five or so other regulars who drop in here and there.
Edit: This three or four has grown into a pretty solid crowd of maybe 15-20 regulars and a fair few who drop by here and there. Join us!
It might be a bit quiet in there at times, but hang around and you'll find some interesting discussion form. And you may even get access to some Keen projects for testing.
Quick Link: irc://irc.foonetic.net/pckf
There are two means of accessing the channel. Either download an IRC program, or use a JavaScript web interface.
Web-Based JavaScript Option
If you don't wish to bother with downloading extra software, you can connect through this page using a JavaScript system called Mibbit.
Just select Foonetic from the drop down box and enter a nickname and type '#pckf' as the channel name. Click Go and you're in, if all goes to plan!
Download Option
XChat is highly recommended for accessing the channel, and is much more convenient and stable in the long run than working from within a web browser.
If you need any help with either of these tools, post here and we'll help you out. _________________

| Hey everyone, go to http://clonekeenplus.cbox.ws for a true forum chatbox. I hope to get that one mounted on this forum sometime soon, as well as on the Keen: Modding forum, making it so that everyone can quickly chat at the bottom of the forum without having to log in or worry about other such things. |

XChat isn't free...
Any other free IRC chats recommendations? Preferably something that makes a nice *ding* noise when someone types a message. |

Hmm, I think there are a number of variations of XChat, some of which are non-free, and one of which is uber. The one Ubuntu uses tastes like free beer to me. Shall have to find the good Windows one and post it here.
And wow, I left for a few days and came back to find an empty channel. _________________

I use Pidgin, but I'm not sure if it can ding (If it would by default, I'd have it deactivated immediately). _________________

The IRC doesn't get enough love. C'mon everybody!
ChatZilla - For anyone using Firefox, this is a handy IRC client built into the browser. Works well, and my personal favourite IRC client.
Pidgin - Not just an IRC client, but an all-in-one instant messenger. Has IRC capability, and also can be used for MSN, ICQ, YIM, AIM, etc. Not as good an interface as ChatZilla, but for those not using Firefox a worthwhile option.
Or you can use XChat. |

I keep getting booted out for drive-by spam. Halp? I'm using chatzilla. _________________ "I don't agree with a word you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." - Voltaire

Well it seems you have been banned for drive-by spam. The PCKF is not in control of this network, so we can't do anything about it. The fact that you logged on and off again a few times in quick succession may have given one of the IRCops the wrong idea. Try a different username to see if it's an IP ban.
EDIT: Given you got on with Mibbit, it's an IP ban. I checked the timestamps, you got IP banned in 8 minutes. No offence, but that's almost amusing. Given you didn't do anything. |

Could it be that they ban someone with "hacker" in the name immediately? _________________

Wow. And I don't even know what I did wrong!
EDIT: Wow, I didn't have IdentD turned on.
Aaand.. there's a difference between hackers (members of open-source communities) and crackers (people who break into things).
No one really uses the terms like that anymore.. _________________ "I don't agree with a word you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." - Voltaire
